President John Evans Atta Mills has challenged the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to continue to propagate the massive achievements of the government since it assumed office three years ago. He said the government had done so much to improve the lot of Ghanaians over the period and underscored the need for the successes to be trumpeted to every nook and cranny of the country. The Communications Director at the Presidency, Mr Koku Anyidoho, told graphic.com.gh after the President had held a closed-door meeting with the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC at the party headquarters in Accra Wednesday, that President Mills assured the committee that he would lead the party to victory in the December general election. The President cautioned against complacency, stressing that �although a lot had been done over the years, a lot more needs to be done in order to retain power, come December�. On the seeming disunity in the party, President Mills told the FEC, as well as the rank and file of the party, that �we must bury the hatchet, put our shoulders to the wheel and sell the good image of the party to the people�. He thanked the members of the NDC, as well as supporters, for the massive support and demonstration of love shown to him when he returned from the US after undergoing a routine medical check-up. The President said the massive show of support at the airport last Monday was a demonstration of unity of purpose and love for one another and country and underlined the need for such unity now, during and after the December general election. The Chairman of the NDC, Dr Kwabena Adjei, for his part, lauded the President for being in constant touch with the ordinary people, as well as the party hierarchy, saying, �This is a good sign of strength in unity and good leadership.� He gave an assurance that the NDC leadership would not relent in its efforts at ensuring that it retained power, adding, �Our good deeds will show the way.� Dr Adjei used the occasion to brief the President on developments on the political front while he was away, including the intention of the Electoral Commission (EC) to create 46 new districts, the Wulensi bye-election, as well as the death of the MP for Kwabre, Mr Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah. Present at the meeting were the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketia; the National Organiser, Mr Yaw Boateng-Gyan; a Vice-Chairman, Alhaji Huudu Yahaya; Mr Danny Annan, a Vice-Chairman, and Mr Richard Quarshigah, the National Propaganda Secretary.
