Wee In Fufu Plan Thwarted

A relative of a crime suspect who hid wee (marijuana) in fufu with the aim of smuggling it to suspects in police custody has been arrested by the Kpeshie Divisional Police. The police at the counter who suspected the culprit when she brought the fufu decided to tear the food apart, only to find wee wrapped in polythene and stuffed in the fufu. The police had for some days observed severe drowsiness and weariness in the suspects in the morning, coupled with other signs and actions by the suspects which made them believe that the inmates were taking something stronger than food and water. Chronicling the events leading to the discovery of visitors modus operandi for outwitting the police, the Kpeshie Divisional Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Patience Akwetey, told The Finder that her men decided to raise their alertness level after observing the suspects strange behaviour. So the police started do a thorough examination of meals brought by friends and relatives to the incarcerated suspects. On that day, a woman brought a bowl of fufu to her husband who had been arrested for possessing wee and is awaiting trial. Norbert Asamoah, the corporal at the charge office, checked the fufu thoroughly and lo and behold he found wee hidden in the fufu wrapped in polythene. DSP Akwetey said the woman had come to visit her husband with a baby strapped at her back and accompanied by a teenage daughter. She said she immediately ordered for the womans arrest, but hell broke loose. She was weeping uncontrollably and her daughter was rolling on the floor saying that her mother should not be detained. DSP Akwetey continued that this is the same woman whose son, Jamal, ran into the sea and drowned when the police raided the Coco Beach area sometime ago and now she had the heart to bring wee to her husband in police cells. She said, As a police officer I wanted to arrest her as the law stipulates, but as a mother, knowing that she lost her first son through a similar incident and her husband is about to be jailed for the same offence, I felt sorry for the teenager and the baby she carried. An inmate of the cells (name withheld) confirmed the fact that wee is smuggled into the cells through cunning ways. He said they chewed it and got the same feeling as if they had smoked it. He said all the inmates pleaded with the police to forgive their sins and to allow the woman to go as she was the sole bread winner of her family. DSP Akwetey said the woman was detained for a day while a search party was dispatched to her residence to search for more substances.
