A Non-Governmental Organization called Wilstrat Consults has endorsed Parliament Appointments Committee�s decision to publicly vet the Vice Presidential nominee, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur. The organization�s Executive Director, William Majeed Mahama opposed Mr. Yaw Osafo Maafo�s proposal that the former Governor of Bank of Ghana should be vetted in camera. Mr. Majeed argued that Ghanaians would be denied their right to public knowledge on the character and stewardship of their next Vice President. �A circumstantial Vice Presidential nominee like Amissah Arthur must be vetted publicly so that we the ordinary Ghanaians out there would know the caliber of person being presented to function in this key role.� �Of course he would act in the absence of the President and his actions and inactions could either benefit or cause the nation much hence the need for him to be scrutinized by Parliament; we must know his track record, we must be sure that he is up to the task; unlike then Vice President Mahama who went to the polls as running mate to our late President Mils, this man is being nominated and Parliament should at least be able to ascertain his competence or otherwise,� he insisted. Mr. Majeed further rejected claims by a section of the Ghanaian public that vetting Amissah Arthur publicly could subject him to public ridicule. He said: �Good governance is serious business and we have to be sure that he is up to the task.� He however appealed to members of the Vetting Committee to decouple their political colorations from their responsibilities to win public confidence.
