Very often when the interim leaders of the newly formed National Democratic Party (NDP) are questioned about the brains behind the formation of the party, they extricate ex-First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings from the founding members of the party. But last Wednesday The Herald (TH) picked up intelligence leads which have been corroborated by some media practitioners that the Interim executives of the yet to be fully certified NDP, led by Dr. Josiah Aryeh, tried to scuttle yesterday�s impressive Special National Delegates� Congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kumasi, but failed. The NDP Interim Chairman as well as Dr. Offei Agyemang, the NDC�s 2008 parliamentary aspirant for Ayawaso Central, were billed to organize a programme that was intended to take the shine out of the NDC�s congress but called it off at the last hour. The leadership of the NDP had sent invitation by telephone to some media houses without telling them the venue of the programme. The journalists were only directed to converge at the office of the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, which also served as the 31St December Women�s Movement office at North Ridge in Accra. The programme which has now be rescheduled for next week gives the indication that Mrs. Rawlings is linked to the NDP, after many months of wide speculation. The ex-First Lady was unusually not at her husband�s side at yesterday�s Congress of the NDC. The invitations to the various media houses came through telephone calls last Tuesday from a female who identified herself as calling from the 31St December Women�s Movement office near Accra High School, asking the various media houses to dispatch reporters to the office to be conveyed to another location for an NDP progamme the next day. Apart from being told the programme was under the auspices of the NDP, the reporters were not told the details of the programme as well as the actual location of the venue except the explicit instruction to be at the 31st December Women�s Movement office. Insiders told The Herald that the reporters were be told on arrival at the 31st December office, the venue after the necessary screening had been done on them. However, the reporters who were on their way to the 31st December office were called on the mobile phones number 024672977*** by the same female and told to return to their various offices because the programme had been cancelled. They were told that they would be called and informed of the new date. No reasons were assigned for the cancellation. It is unclear whether the NDP was planning the event for ex-President John Jerry Rawlings, whom reports said was adamant at being present at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, to endorse the candidature of President John Mahama for the 2012 Presidential polls. Meanwhile, the NDP�s advertisement is still running on the various radio platforms in Accra and other parts of the country.
