NDC Shit Bombed

SOME IRATE supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Wenchi in the Brong Ahafo Region yesterday vandalized a new constituency office believed to be operated by followers of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Nana Yaw Osei Agyei. The new constituency office was earlier shit-bombed by unidentified aggrieved NDC supporters on Sunday, after a warning by the party foot-soldiers to close down the office had been treated with contempt. The attack in the home region of the NDC National Organiser, Yaw Boateng Gyan, is coming on the heels of a recent revelation by Yaw Gyan on a secret tape recording to recruit party goons to attack their opponents. The Wenchi police averted what could have resulted in bloodshed if they had not swiftly intervened, after a group of party youth, mainly from the Zongo community numbering over 100, stormed the office at about 11am yesterday. The marauding NDC youth vandalized computers, a television set, a satellite decoder, furniture, plastic chairs and other office equipment. They even went to the extent of setting the entire building ablaze. Reports are that some members of the MCEs camp who were in the new office at the time of the incident were severely beaten up, with about three of them sustaining various degrees of injury. The Wenchi Municipal Police Commander, Mr Lawson, confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, but could not give details of the incident. He told the paper that he was in a meeting with some officials on the issue. At the time of filing this report, no arrest had been made even though names of some people had popped up as ringleaders. DAILY GUIDE was informed that what led to the establishment of the second constituency office was the fact the MCE who doubles as the NDC parliamentary candidate for the constituency, had been threatened on several occasions by the party youth anytime he went to the old office located at Wenchi Zongo to transact party business. Reports said the MCE decided to open the new constituency office located behind the Wenchi GNAT Office to run his campaign, despite protests by his party executives. Speaking to DAILY GUIDE on the reasons for the fracas, Malam Issifu Ali, a staunch supporter of the NDC in the Wenchi Zongo, said when Mr. Agyei contested the parliamentary primary with one Osei Kwadwo, who was once the DCE of Wenchi, supporters of the NDC in the Wenchi Zongo threw their weight behind Mr. Agyei but after winning, he turned his back on them. Malam Issifu said to make matters worst, the MCE had refused to visit the constituency party office. He rather acquired his own office and operated from there without the knowledge of the entire constituency executive. According to Malam Issifu, because of the behaviour of the MCE, the NDC had lost credibility in the municipality. He said even though the MCE was a teacher before he was appointed MCE, he had acquired so much wealth to the anger of residents who saw him when he was living in a single room in his fathers house before he was appointed MCE. In an interview with one of the boys who vandalized the office, Iron Boy, he said they had planned to vote skirt and blouse but now they had changed their minds and they were all going to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo and Professor Gyan Bafour because they saw the NDC as a party that had nothing good for them. According to Iron Boy, in the run-up to the 2008 general elections, the youth in the party were promised jobs and other goodies but when the party came to power, only a few persons were enjoying while the majority of the youth who sacrificed all they had for the party were living in abject poverty. The NDC constituency chairman, Sampson Nsia, recently stormed the MCEs residence to ask him to close down the new office because it was illegal, but the MCE refused to kowtow to his chairmans orders. Currently, the Wenchi NDC is sharply divided between the MCEs faction and the party executives. The party executives control the majority of the die-hard members who are mostly members of the Zongo community. The NDC youth have staged a number of demonstrations against Mr. Osei Agyei and at one point, they almost succeeded in lynching him when he once visited Muslim chiefs in the Zongo community during the previous Ramadan to present some items to them. Meanwhile, attempts to reach the embattled MCE for his side of the story were unsuccessful because an aide said he was in a meeting as at press time.
