NDC Pioneer Group Vows To Safeguard Legacy Of Rawlings

A group claiming to belong to National Democratic Congress (NDC), has vowed to safeguard and protect the legacy of former President Jerry John Rawlings against any reactionary forces and enemies of progress. The Pioneers Group, consisting of concerned founding members of the NDC in the Ashanti Region, made the promise in a statement signed by Mr Steve Boateng, its spokesman, copied to Ghana News in Kumasi on Monday. It said: We are people, who right from the onset of multiparty democracy in the country identified ourselves with the course of our founder, Flight Lieutenant Rawlings. Against all odds, in a hostile opposition stronghold, we stood for and by him in his pursuit of social, economic and political justice and progress in our beloved country, Ghana. The group said it was committed to upholding the partys vanguard role in the nations political evolution, and would not entertain any self-destructive tendencies within the party that would prematurely curtail the attainment of the better Ghana agenda. The Pioneers Group said it had been part of the solution to the socio-political crisis, having travelled the rough and tough path of revolutionary reform to the current democratic dispensation. It asked all NDC members to solve the partys problems through patience, tolerance, love and positive thinking. The group appealed to NDC members to unite and crush the ferocious attacks of our political opponents. Let us flush out divisiveness, hatred, greed and any tendencies that will inure to the benefit of our political opponents. It said Ghanaians needed the NDC to continue with the better Ghana agenda and that nothing should be allowed to frustrate the rank and file of members of the party. The group called for support for the partys leader, President John Mahama, to enable him to retain power to continue with the unfinished job of the late President John Evans Atta Mills. It appealed to Ghanaians to renew the mandate of the NDC in Election 2012.
