Ghana Tourism Authority says tourism can alleviate poverty

Mr. Micheal Kpingbi, Acting Western Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has said developing the tourism potentials of the Region could help in alleviating poverty. He said the Region was endowed with lots of tourism sites and attractions which needed to be harnessed. Mr. Kpingbi sad this when the Regional GTA visited the Aboadze Thermal Plant together with some practitioners in the industry as part of activities marking World Tourism Day. The national event, to be celebrated at Akosombo on September 27, is on the theme "Tourism and Sustainable Energy" and would highlight the need for industry players to conserve energy in their day to day activities. He said the Western Region has lots of yet to be developed tourism sites and appealed to stakeholders to put more resources to develop the sector. "Tourism can turn the fortunes of the people around even more than the oil, gold and other natural resources," he said.
