Kumasi FONKAR Rejects Konadu; Campaigns For NDC

A group of national and regional executive members of the Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR) have declared support and resolve to work assiduously to ensure victory for President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December elections. They have also appealed to Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and other aggrieved NDC members to remain in the party and reject any overtures to quit. Addressing a press conference in Kumasi on Tuesday, Mr Chris Douglan, National Strategist of FONKAR, said President Mahama had brought some level of unity and discipline, something the group had always yearned for. Today, we are happy to state that the leadership of President Mahama has not brought only a spark but rekindled our spirit and confidence in our great party; the NDC, a position which our great party and inspirational father, former President Jerry John Rawlings himself has espoused. As FONKAR executives, we have thought deeply, reflected thoroughly and have together with our rank and file arrived at the conclusion that President Mahama has the qualities that both the NDC and Ghana require in our quest for prosperity and development in this contemporary time. He said the group was of the conviction that they would be better off staying on and pushing for reforms than to stay out of the NDC. Mr Rashid Alhassan, Ashanti Regional Chairman of FONKAR, said President Mahama had demonstrated that he was capable of bringing unity and discipline back into the party. Their goal was to put pressure on the leadership to correct the wrongs in the party and with the kind of leadership being provided by the President, they were convinced that things would change for the better. Mr Alhassan said the action taken by the group would ginger the leadership to open doors to all aggrieved members to forge a united front towards victory on December 7.
