With barely one week to the crucial December 7 polls, members of the opposition New Patriotic Party have been called upon to defy any threat of intimidation form the ruling National Democratic Congress and come out in their numbers to vote out the �incompetent� Mahama-Amissah-Arthur administration. Osei Bonsu-Amoah, a member of the NPP Legal Committee, who is also the incumbent MP for Aburi-Nsawam, who made the call, served notice of the party�s readiness to resist in equal measure any attempt by the NDC to scare NPP members from coming out to vote on December 7. The warning comes in the wake of alleged plans by the ruling party to engineer some violence to intimidate voters in the stronghold of the NPP, as part of a plot to reduce voter turnout in such places. �No one can intimidate us in this country; we are above that. All of you should therefore go about the campaign in a peaceful manner and be prepared to come out in your numbers to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo and your parliamentary candidates for a resounding victory,� Mr. Bonsu-Amoah stated at a press conference in Aburi yesterday. He expressed the hope that the opponents of the NPP would work with all stakeholders, especially the Electoral Commission, to ensure free and fair elections on December 7. �We pledge to carry out the rest of our campaign with decorum and to preach peace while refusing to be provoked and intimated� he stated. He noted that the campaign of the NPP had been well executed, with the party�s messages well received by the electorate, especially regarding the achievement of the party while in Government, as well as the vision and hope Nana Akufo-Addo, NPP Presidential Candidate, provides for Ghana. �The campaign message of Nana Akufo-Addo has been well received and hailed as the best for the country. His vision on job creating, health care, housing, economy, education, industrialization, energy, poverty alleviation, etc, backed by solid facts and figures has been appreciated and endorsed by the electorate. The people cannot just wait for Nana Addo and the NPP for Free SHS education, jobs, health care, and better management of our resources, especially Oil and Gas,� Mr. Amoah stressed. He added that the record of the NPP in the Aburi constituency, just like in all constituencies in the country, had been outstanding, stressing �the NPP under President Kufuor carried out major projects in the road, education, health, water and sanitation, agriculture and energy sectors, among others. The project under the Millennium Challenge Account which started in February, 2007, has also enhanced the reputation of the NPP and the people yearn for our return to power.� Mr. Amoah said the greater majority of the electorate were also enthused about his work as MP for the first term, especially in respect of major projects undertaken with resources he had personally raised. He bemoaned the vile propaganda the NPP opponents had employed as their campaign tool, mainly occasioned by the fact that they cannot match the party on issue-based campaign. �Obviously scared of our recorded, vision and promise of change to move Ghana forward, our opponent has resorted to vile propaganda and malicious falsehood in the hope to get some votes. But it is too late,� he added. Mr. Amoah debunked claims by the NDC that it was Nana Akufo-Addo, as Attorney General, who ordered payment of money to Woyome on his advice, as them deputy Education, Youth and Sports Minister. �Can you imagine that the NDC is so desperate that they claim I hail from the Volta Region, so I do not deserve the mandate of the people. Even though my late father was from Ashanti and my mother is from Aburi, is it wrong to come from the Volta Region?� he queried. The MP further deflated claims that he had squandered his share of the MPs Common Fund and had also been preventing the construction of roads in the area, particularly the Aburi-Nsawam road. �The known fact on the ground is that the contract was awarded for the construction of the road by President Kufuor and was terminated by the late President Mills. But I can assure you that president Nana Akufo-Addo will construct the road for us,� he set the record straight. Another disturbing thing, according to Mr. Amoah, �is the vicious and crude campaign� being carried out by some employees of the Aburihene�s palace against him and Nana Akufo-Addo. �These employees, Kumi and Danquah, by their conducts have compromised the image of our palace. They have their right in campaigning for the NDC but should not lie and insult us, coming from the palace. We refuse to be provoked by these desperate acts,� he stated.
