Manhyia MP Arrested And Released On GH�30,000 Bail

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia constituency in the Ashanti region Mathew Opoku Prempeh was on Friday arrested and questioned over the shooting incident at Ashtown where two people sustained serious injuries. Supporters of the MP attacked an NDC man during a door to door campaign by Hon. Opoku Prempeh. The NDC man named as Maphus was shot in the leg and was also hacked with machete by the NPP supporters. He was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital together with his sister who also sustained some gun shot wounds. The Police has however stated that the issue is being treated as a criminal matter and not a political issue. Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Yussif Tanko has however confirmed that the MP was arrested and later released on bail. He added a caution statement was taken from the MP after which he was released on a GHC30, 000 bail with one surety. �We cannot take an investigation caution statement from a suspect without him first being arrested. So you have to be arrested before the caution statement is taken from you.� ASP Tanko told Citi News.
