An Accra Fast Track High Court, (Financial Division) has resumed cross examination of witnesses in the case between the Republic of Ghana and business man, Alfred Woyome over the payment of GHC 51 million as judgement debt to the latter.
Citi News reporter, Rabiu Alhassan noted that �the business magnate, Mr. Woyome was in court with his lawyers lead by Mr. Sarfo Buabeng.�
�There has been a back and forth with the cross examination of the witnesses and lawyer of Mr. Woyome who has been trying to establish facts about how contracts were terminated.�
The criminal trial, was adjourned on the 28th of November, 2012 at the Financial Division of the Accra Fast Track High Court because the prosecution in the case could not produce witnesses to testify for it.
The court adjourned the case at the instance of the prosecution.
A Chief State Attorney, Mr Matthew Amponsah, announced to the court that the state could not bring a witness to testify, as had been expected, as a result of circumstances beyond its control.
Mr Woyome is facing two counts of defrauding by false pretences and causing financial loss to the state.
So far, about three prosecution witnesses have testified in the matter. They are the Deputy Head of the Legal Department at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MoFEP), Mrs Mangowa Ghanney; a former Minister of Finance, Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, and a former Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr Kwaku Agyemang-Manu.
The accused, who has denied any wrongdoing, is alleged to have made fraudulent claims to the government, resulting in the payment of GH�51.2 million to him.
