A section of elated Ghanaians, clad in both national and party colours of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), were on Monday seen on some busy streets of Accra trekking to the Black Star Square to witness the Presidential Inauguration. Singing, drumming, blowing vuvuzelas and whistling, the crowd caused some traffic hold-ups especially on the High Street in Accra and other link roads to the Square where President Dramani Mahama and Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur were to take the oath of office to be administered by the Chief Justice, Mrs Justice Theodora Georgina Wood before an open Parliament. Kwesi Asuman, a physically-challenged person, told the Ghana News Agency that the event, was an important national event. Among the ecstatic crowd was a young man in the National Democratic Congress� t-shirt with a New Patriotic Party (NPP)�s flag tightly fastened to his right leg. A grey-haired man who only gave his name as �Assemblyman� said he was disappointed by the position taken by the NPP to have boycotted the national event. �They should copy the example of Former President John Agyekum Kufuor in a spirit of peace and also attend. It will not take anything from the party,� he said. Some principal roads in Dansoman, Korle Gonno, Mamprobi and Larterbiokorshie were largely traffic-free as most people were spotted going about their normal activities. Others were seen listening in and watching the live programme on their radio and television sets. The NPP members of parliament said they it would not attend the inauguration and instructed the party�s supporters not to attend. The party has petitioned the Supreme Court against the Electoral Commission�s declaration of President Mahama as winner of Election 2012. According to the party attending the inaugural ceremony would undermine its case in court challenging the election results.
