A staunch National Democratic Congress (NDC) member, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah has called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to consult professional psychologists to help them overcome the depression they are suffering following their defeat.
According to the former flag bearer aspirant of the NDC, the leadership of the NPP is hurting but they must manage their anger appropriately instead of shifting it unto innocent people.
Speaking to Citi News, Dr. Spio Garbrah stated that what is currently happening in the NPP stems from the false hopes the leadership gave to supporters prior to the elections.
�The party officers who told party members on December 8th that the NPP has won the election and that they should go to church to celebrate and when it turns out that you haven�t won; members will get angry with you for giving them false hope and you [NPP] begin to point fingers at the fact that logistics did not arrive on time,� he stated.
�Part of what the party executives are doing is anger management where they are pushing away the anger of their people towards the Electoral Commission, the President and possibly the Supreme Court,� he said.
Mr. Garbrah further mentioned, �With regards to the way they behaved with former president Kufuor in trying to prevent him from attending the inauguration, you will understand how their minds are working. We sympathise with them because obviously when you lose an election or something in your family, there is a whole psychological process which includes periods of denial, frustration, depression and anger and that is a matter that psychologists can help them with�.
