Why NPP Lost - Allotey Jacobs

The Central Regional Communications Director of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey-Jacobs says the conduct of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) after the 2012 election defeat shows the party did not learn from its 2008 defeat. According to him, the post election conduct of the NPP is not different from that of the previous election (2008) noting that the party clearly lost the 2012 election because they did not do their work well. The NPP rejected the results of the 2012 elections and has petitioned the Supreme Court seeking to overturn the results declared in favour of the incumbent President, John Mahama. The winner of the elections, President John Mahama has been sworn-in even though the opposition boycotted the ceremony. Speaking on Asempa FMs current affairs programme Ekosii-Sen on Wednesday, Allotey Jacobs noted that the actions of the NPP after the polls was not unexpected. I am not surprised about the NPPs conduct after the elections because it has been their character since the party was born. Any election which didnt go the NPP way was rigged. The actions of the NPP show clearly that they didnt learn from a similar defeat in the 2008 election. They were just assuring their supporters that they had won in advance so when the defeat came, they are finding it difficult in explaining it to the supporters. The truth will certainly come out soon he said. Mr. Allotey Jacobs asserted that complacency made the NPP lose the 2008 and the 2012 elections. "Look when we were campaigning in the 2008 elections, the NPP were addressing Nana Addo as His Excellency so when they lost, they decided not to agree and similar a thing is happening. The NPP must accept that Nana Addo is not the president of Ghana and focus well the next time. He admonished the NPP to tell its supporters the truth. I think the NPP should tell the supporters that they lost the election instead of wasting its time in court. The truth would certainly be known and by that time the anger of the supporters cannot be controlled by the leadership. The vociferous politician noted that the NPP's going to court will not affect the performance of the government because it won the elections fairly. The NPP can go to court. Ghana will certainly move on with president Mahama because he is the legitimate leader of the country. My only problem is that if the NPP is seeking redress at the law court, why these press conferences. John Mahama has been sworn in as the legitimate president of Ghana so the NPP can say whatever they like and we dont care. His government is legitimate because the people voted for him and he will rule and make the life of everybody better. The NPP must know this and support us to rule in peace Allotey hinted. On the appointments being made by the president, Allotey Jacobs said he was satisfied because they were done in consultation with the NDC leadership. I am happy about the appointments of the president because they were done in consultation with the party hierarchy. As for us in the Central Region, we have submitted our list of competent people to the appointment committee and hope they are nominated. Those disagreeing with the president on his appointments really do not understand the processes taken before the appointments.
