Kwesi Pratt: NPP Must Elect New Breed of Leaders & Work On Building A New Image For The Party

The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper has urged the New Patriotic Party(NPP) to expedite the process of building a new image for the party; and if necessarily, elect a new breed of leaders. As a political analyst who has observed political activities in the country for a long time, he compared the current leadership of the party, especially the General Secretary position to that of the late Professor Adu Boahene and ex-president J.A. Kufuor; and maintained that there was a substantive difference in the way that position has been handled. I have been observing the New Patriotic Party over a long period of time and I can say with emphasis that there is a substantial difference between the General secretaryship of Sir John and the General secretaryship of Dan Botwe or even of da Rocha, substantial differences and everybody can see the difference; it is not for me to amplify the differences. If you look at the New Patriotic Party in 1992 and the 1993 and the Adu Boahenes, and you look at the New Patriotic Party today, everybody can see the difference, he stated. Mr. Pratt noted on Metro TVs Good Morning Ghana that he was depressed to learn that prior to the 2012 general elections; the NPP constantly topped the chart for using the most offensive language in a survey conducted by the Media Foundation for West Africa. One of the most remarkable things in the last elections was the exercise which was carried out by the Media Foundation for West Africa findings about offensive statements in the media...if I were in the New Patriotic Party, I would be worried about the outcome of that survey, and I would be taking steps to ensure that the party gets a new image. To top the league of insults in the media for two weeks, is an achievement nobody should be proud of...I would not be proud of that achievement, he said. He however maintained that there are serious issues with the other political parties he has failed to mention and that all wasnt cozy and well with them. There are statements from the other political parties and some of the leaders from the political parties which are exceedingly worrying. I think that all we need is to sanitize the whole political space, he advised.
