Ghana says they are counting support from South Africans to be able to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations which starts on Saturday. The Black Stars called for the support when they arrived in South Africa for the three-week competition. Ghana had huge support from native South Africans during their participation in the 2010 World Cup which was hosted by the Southern African country. The Black Stars were the only African side to reach the knock-out phase of the tournament which means they were the team that carried the continent�s hopes during the competition. South Africans even changed the nickname of their national team from Bafana Bafana to Baghana Baghana in support of the Black Stars during the 2010 World Cup. Ghana had a massive welcome at the OR Tambo International airport when they arrived in South Africa for the tournament. Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan says their return to their second home means they will have a lot of support during the competition. Immediately after touching down at OR Tambo International airport last night Ghana�s Black Stars made it clear they mean business. �The reception has been good and South Africa is like a second home to us. We won lots of hearts during the World Cup and we hope to do the same again,� said Gyan. Gyan added that they are ready to do their best in the Nations Cup as they did not want to disappoint their fans. The Black Stars had a similar reception from South African locals on Thursday when they arrived in Port Elizabeth where they will be based during the competition. Hundreds of Ghanaians also living in Port Elizabeth also met the team on arrival to give the players a good impression of the support they will get during their Group B matches. With nearly two thousand supporters expected to arrive from Ghana to support the team the Black Stars will get the necessary support during the matches.
