Chiefs Are Not Above Reproach - Adu Asare

The former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Adenta, Kojo Adu Asare has indicated that Chiefs are not above reproach in as much as their positions they hold and the chieftaincy institution is revered. This follows accusations from the Eastern Regional branch of the NDC in relation to the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panins call on President John Mahama to eschew politics of insults and accept the ruling of the Supreme Court on the New Patriotic Partys (NPP) election petition. Speaking on Citi FMs news analysis programme, The Big Issue on Saturday, Mr Adu Asare stated that the submissions of the Okyehene to President Mahama was not necessary. The President has not demonstrated any sign of lawlessness for anybody to assume that when the Supreme Court decides that this case should go in either this or that direction the president can say no he said. According to him, the chieftaincy institution of this country is held in high esteem that is why Ghanaians accord them the respect they deserve saying, to whom much is given much is expected and that is how come, because we hold them in high esteem sometimes we when they speak, we hardly want to criticize or even take a swipe at what they say. He opined that politics in this country was becoming a nemesis of a kind and indicated that the Okyehenes case is raising issues because the very institutions that have gained the right to speak on issues, at certain points, chose to recline or distance themselves from political issue and you only hear them speak when a certain party which they oppose is in power. The former MP advocated that all of these perceptions seemed to fuel the way people responded when such people speak.
