27-Year-Old Fetish Priest Who Butchered 2 SHS Students To Death Remanded

The Nkawkaw Magistrate Court yesterday remanded in police custody the 27-year-old fetish priest who allegedly butchered two senior high school (SHS) students and severely injured a third one in the bush at Kwahu-Atwidie in the Eastern Region. Kwabena Efo Oduro was charged with murder but his plea was not taken. He is to reappear before the court on March 15, 2013. According to the Public Affairs Director of the Eastern Regional Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Yaw Nketsia-Yeboah, the fetish priests mother had returned three mobile phones allegedly stolen by the fetish priest from the students to the police. The accused person allegedly killed the two students and injured a third one on February 13, this year after he had given the students a concoction to drink. The deceased have been identified as Michael Ofori Agyapong, a 21-year-old student of the Kwahu Ridge SHS, and Kojo Anane, alias Emmanuel Oti, a student of the Nglesie Amanfrom SHS at Kasoa near Accra. The third student, Joseph Nyame, also of the Nglesie Amanfrom SHS, became unconscious but survived. The students had approached Efo Oduro at his shrine at Kwahu-Atwidie to have their GH1,800 doubled for them. After the students had taken the concoction, the fetish priest reportedly butchered them and took away their money, laptops, schoolbags and ID cards and fled to Ziofe in the Volta Region. Luckily, Kojo Anane, who had sustained critical injuries all over the body, survived and managed to escape from the bush. He was seen by some of the residents of the area, whom he directed to the bush where the bodies of his friends were retrieved. The residents took Anane to the Atibie Government Hospital, from where he was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. The bodies of the deceased students were also deposited at the Atibie Government Hospital and later taken to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy.
