Nakpanduri/Kpemali Clashes Affecting Students Psychologically

Headmaster of the Nakpanduri Business Senior High School, Harrison Salifu has stated that the renewed clashes at Kpemali near the Nakpanduri in the Northern Region on Thursday have affected his students psychologically. Whiles preparing for examinations, they heard gunshots so naturally, they are psychologically disorganized, he stated. Narrating the incident on Citi Eyewitness News, Mr. Salifu stated that the students were asked not leave the campus as security personnel arrived to bring the situation under control. We just had to ask the students not to come out and security came around to quell the situation so at that time, there was nothing to scare the students but the sounds of the gunshots, he stated. The headmaster further mentioned that the police usually escorted the Kokomba students to the school to write their exams but because of the nature of the clashes, no one could enter the Kokomba village. They live in the Kokomba village and on days when we write examinations, the school bus is usually escorted by the security to come and write but because of the nature of the gunshots, it was difficult for anyone to go to the Kokomba village so the students could not come, he stated. Meanwhile the Police have said that even though arrests were yet to be made, they had begun investigations into the matter and are searching for the culprits. According to the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Ebenezer Tetteh, they [police] were escorting students who were writing exams from the other communities and with these renewed clashes, we need to strategize and see how best we could assist some of the students who come from the other communities. We have men who are already on the ground. Some men are also close to the place so we are going to rely on these persons to help police the area. We have intensified patrols and all those security arrangements we have on the ground, he stated. As a measure to prevent the incident from happening again, the police stated they would continue monitoring the area in a more proactive way by engaging the people to ensure the gathering of intelligence they can use to forestall more violence.
