About 41 women believed to be prostitutes together with 47 suspected criminals were on Tuesday arrested by the Madina Police. The suspects, according to the Madina Police, were part of suspected criminals terrorizing residents and travellers in the area. Items found on them included a double-edged machete, a pair of scissors, a kitchen knife, two smoking pipes, a box of matches and some quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. A Yamaha motorbike was also impounded in the operation conducted by 65 police personnel from the Madina Divisional Police Command led by Superintendent Owusu Bempah, the District Crime Officer. Briefing DAILY GUIDE, Superintendent Owusu Bempah, the Madina District Police Commander, said the swoop was conducted around 2:00am last Tuesday. He said areas covered included Ayamba Park, Madina Market, Nikkis Spot, Redco, Kwabenya Public Cemetery and Taifa Burkina Market. Some of the women arrested were seen in business in their brothels while others were spotted around Nikkis Spot and Redco areas. The operation was part of efforts by the police administration to curb criminal activities in areas believed to be hideouts of the criminals. The suspects would be screened and those found culpable would be sent to court for prosecution. He added that the exercise would continue at unexpected dates to rid the area of criminal activities. He also urged family members who are fond of pleading for their suspects when they are arrested to rather caution them against their acts before they are nabbed.
