Police Civilian Employees Cry Over Low Salary

Civilian employees at the Police Hospital are likely to lay down their tools, if the police administration and the Ministry of Interior fail to increase their salaries by the end of the month. The employees, who pleaded anonymity, told DAILY GUIDE that civilian workers at the Police Hospital, who are paid by the Ministry of the Interior through the police administration, received as low as GH279 per month without allowances. They noted that the highest-paid worker at the police hospital, who has worked for close to 20 years, received GH512 per month whilst a fresh police Constable took home about GH800. Some civilian employees said their work covered theatre operations, records attendance, cleaning of the facility, which expose them to hazards. The aggrieved workers said they worked daily for close to 12 hours, yet their salaries were scanty, as compare to their colleagues in the police service. According to them, prior to the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS), they were almost at par with the police personnel in terms of salaries. When we compare ourselves with our colleagues who are paid by the Ministry of Health, they are receiving much better salaries than we do but we all do same work. The police administration does not add any remuneration to what we receive per month, yet we are made to work extra time daily without complaints. We have written several letters to the police administration through the current medical director but to no avail. They, therefore, called on government to come to their aid.
