Alleged Murderer Arrested After A Year

An alleged murderer, who has been on the run for almost a year, has been arrested. Daniel Darkwa, 28, allegedly murdered one Franklin Hountmond Appiah at Eyifua in Cape Coast. He was arrested upon a tip-off by the Central Regional Police Patrol team last Tuesday, April 30. Briefing the press in Cape Coast Friday, the Central Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Ransford Moses Ninson, said Darkwa had, on September 10, 2012, allegedly broken into the house of Mr Appiah, 57, a Ghanaian naturalised as a US citizen, and shot him while he was watching television with his family After shooting him, the suspect allegedly stole Appiah�s personal belongings and bolted. According to Mr Ninson, the family rushed the victim to the Central Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Efforts to arrest Darkwa were not successful until the police had a tip-off on April 30, 2013 that Darkwa had been spotted at an area near the Cape Coast Polytechnic. He said 28 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found on Darkwa when the police conducted a search on him after he had been arrested. He said while the suspect was being escorted to the Central Regional Police Command for further investigations, he was spotted and identified by a number of people, including Darkwa�s wife and his daughter. Mr Ninson said the police had not yet retrieved the gun used by Darkwa during his operation, neither had the suspect named any accomplice in the crime. He appealed to those who had fallen victim to armed robbery to report to the police command for identification and assist the police in their investigations.
