Tamale Local Contractors Threaten To Sue Chinese Company

Some local contractors in the northern region are heading to the Court to sue a Chinese Engineering company called the Hunan group of companies. Ahead of the legal redress, they are threatening to go on a demonstration. According to them, the Chinese company owes them huge sums of money for the execution of rural electrification projects in some selected communities in the northern region. Secretary of the Northern Electricians Association of Ghana (NEAG), Latif Mohammed said management of the Hunan group of companies has breached the agreement by outsourcing the projects under contraction to new contractors. What is happening is that this Chinese gave us contract without bidding and again they gave us a contract which we are still working on and they have brought other contractors from outside to work on the same projects without officially telling us anything. He added that the Chinese company owed them huge sums of money and they were handicapped in paying their workers who have been on site for several months. Latif Mohammed gave the Hunan group of companys management one week ultimatum to pay the accumulated monies or suffer the consequences of their next line of action. The angry contractors are working in districts including Karaga, Gushegu, Zabzugu/Tatale, Salaga and Bunkprugu/Yunyoo.
