Kojo Bonsu Takes Office As K�si Mayor

A brief and colourful ceremony was held in Kumasi last Friday to inaugurate Kojo Bonsu as Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). The conference room of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Kumasi was filled to capacity as Mr. Bonsu swore an oath to officially commence his duties. The historic event was graced by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Eric Opoku, his deputy, Samuel Yaw Adusei, NDC bigwigs in the region, KMA staff, family and loved ones of Mr. Bonsu. Mr. Bonsu officially takes over from the former Kumasi Mayor, Samuel Sarpong, who is now the Central Regional Minister. Addressing the gathering, Eric Opoku, charged Mr. Bonsu to work tirelessly to ensure government�s vision of transforming Kumasi and its environs. He charged the new Kumasi Mayor to implement policies to boost security in the area. The Regional Minister also tasked the Mayor to rid the city of filth, adding that Kumasi expects nothing but developmental projects from his administration. Mr. Opoku called on the Mayor to maintain peace in the Garden City. �You therefore need to work closely with your Metropolitan Security Council (MUSEC) and collaborate with REGSEC which you are a member to ensure total peace in the metropolis at all times.� The Regional Minister expressed the hope that Mr. Bonsu�s rich experience in administration and local governance could aid him greatly to succeed as Mayor of Kumasi. He charged chiefs in the area and assemblymen at the KMA to work closely with the mayor to implement programmes to expedite the developmental agenda of Kumasi. In his succinct remarks, Mr Bonsu commended President Mahama for reposing trust in him, promising to work hard to develop Kumasi. He called for total support from all and sundry, especially assemblymen to make Kumasi a better place to live in.
