Unemployed Jailed Six Years For Causing Harm

A Takoradi Circuit Court on Monday sentenced Samuel Kwodwo Sekyi, 23 year-old unemployed, to six years imprisonment in hard labour for causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing. The accused pleaded guilty. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Fuseini Yakubu told the court presided over by Mr. Justice Kwesi Boakye that on April 16 this year, Juliana Aacht, the complainant, returned home from work only to find that her house had been broken into by thieves who took away 4,000 Euros, an HP laptop computer and a Samsung mobile phone valued at 400 Pound Sterling and 80 Euros respectively. He said the complainant lodged a complaint with the police about the theft and informed them that the stolen notes had the inscriptions (ANH) on them so the police notified all the Forex Bureaus in Sekondi-Takoradi to be on the lookout for such inscriptions. Inspector Yakubu said at about 1500 hours on April 17, the police was alerted by a Forex Bureau that the convict had come to change some Euros with the said inscription on it, so the police rushed to the scene and arrested the accused. He said during a search conducted on Sekyi at the scene, 2,700 Euros, an HP laptop computer and a Samsung mobile phone were retrieved. Inspector Yakubu said another search was conducted in his room at Effiakuma Zongo and laptops, computer cables, car tapes, mobile phones with chargers and a face mask were retrieved. He said a public announcement was made asking those who had had such items stolen to go to the Police Station to identify their missing items. Passing the sentence, Mr.Justice Boakye noted the accused served four years imprisonment for a similar offence, adding that, the behaviour of Sekyi was highly reprehensible and he should not be allowed to be in the mist of law abiding citizens.
