Two soldiers and their two civilian accomplices have been arrested for allegedly robbing customers of Global Access Bank branch at Lapaz, in Accra. The suspects Lance Corporal Obeng Darko Stylish, 29, Lance Corporal Dasmani Faisal, 29, Christopher Quainoo, 27 and Isaac Larbi, 25 purportedly robbed customers on many occasions immediately after they had withdrawn money from the bank. Stylish is with the Engineering Training School at Burma Camp, while Faisal is stationed at the 49 Engineers Regiment at Teshie in Accra The four suspects, who were arrested on Saturday, have also been charged with abduction of a staff of the bank. Briefing journalists in Accra yesterday, the Tesano Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr France Aboagye Nyarko, said one of the suspects, Larbi, occasionally positioned himself at the banking hall, from where he relayed information to the two soldiers about customers who went there to withdraw cash, On the events that led to their arrest, Mr Nyarko said, a staff member of the bank was sometime back abducted by the suspects and sent to Apenkwa, an Accra suburb, mistaking him for a customer who had gone to the bank to withdraw money. After they searched him and found no money on him, he was released. He then made a report to the management of the bank and, subsequently, a report was made to the Tesano police. The police then placed personnel at the bank to monitor the activities of people who went there to transact business. Mr Nyarko said on May 18, 2013, the police personnel noticed that Larbi was making calls consistently, after sitting in the banking hall for a while. The police arrested him and took the phone from him. After going through the phone records of Larbi, the police realised that a particular number had been dialled many times. Mr Nyarko said the police placed a call to the number and told the receiver, Quainoo, that they could proceed to the bank. He said soon after the call, Stylish, Faisal and Quainoo arrived at the bank in a taxi and the police quickly arrested them and after several interrogations, they admitted the offence. The suspects also admitted robbing one of their victims of GH350. Meanwhile, Mr Nyarko said the suspects were being processed for court.
