President Has The Right To Comment On Election Petition Case - Ayariga

Minister for Information and Media relations, Mahama Ayariga has said the President Mahama reserves the right to fight his case both in court and in the court of public opinion. According to Mr. Ayariga, once the President was sent to court and was a party in the case, he is within his legal right to state publicly that he will win the case and that justice cannot be served otherwise than by declaring him victor because of the strength of his case. Once you drag him [President Mahama] to court then he deserves and also reserves the right to state his case in court and outside of court. Mr. Ayariga said the Presidents comments did not, in any case, undermine the independence of the judiciary. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a statement asked President Mahama and his government to refrain from making "reckless and irresponsible" comments, prejudicial to the outcome of the election petition case before the Supreme Court.
