A DREADED armed robber who recently gunned down a female university student at Dwenem, near Drobo in the Jaman South District of the Brong Ahafo Region has been grabbed. Maama Amadu, aka Ibrahim Amadu, aged 30, was arrested at Sefwi Adabokrom on May 31, 2013 when he attempted to rob a couple at a gun point. According to the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, the fugitive has been on the police wanted list after killing Bertha Bomo, 21, a resident of Dwenem who had just gained admission to the University of Ghana on the night of April 22, 2013 at her residence. ASP Tawiah told Daily Guide that suspect Amadu who ran to the Sefwi area after the killing stormed the residence of the couple and demanded they surrendered all the monies they had on them or be killed. He said the couple told him that they did not have any money on them, so he threatened to kill the man. ASP Tawiah said when the suspect attempted to pull a locally-manufactured pistol from his pocket to shoot the couple, the man pounced on him and struggled with him while the wife pulled a machete and started inflicting cutlass wounds on the suspect. The PRO indicated that the woman shouted for help and attracted neighbours to the house, leading to the arrest of the dreaded armed robber who was later handed over to the Adabokrom police. The suspect, who suffered severe cutlass wounds, was rushed to the Sefwi Juaboso District Hospital for treatment. A team of investigators from the Drobo police led by Detective Sergeant Joseph Zachariah Adams, who had been pursuing the suspect, traced him to the Juaboso Hospital and brought him to the St Marys Hospital at Drobo, where the suspect is currently on admission under 24-hour police guard. The investigators said the suspect confessed killing the lady at Dwenem, claiming that the lady raised an alarm that he was a thief, which nearly caused his arrest. According to the police, the suspect would be arraigned before court immediately after recovering from his wounds.
