Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, Okyehene has banned drumming and noise making in Okyeman, from Monday, June 17 in preparation towards the annual Ohum festival of the chiefs and people.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin made the announcement at a durbar at Otoase in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region when he met with chiefs and people of the area as part of his familiarisation tour of the area.
He advised the people to take the education of their children serious, since it is the key for development and the elimination of poverty in the society.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin said Okyeman has stool lands and not family lands and therefore appealed to the traditional leaders to avoid selling the stool lands without the knowledge of Okyeman State Council.
He asked the chiefs and people to preserve the environment by planting trees, especially along water bodies to prevent desertification.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin asked investors and businesses on the stool lands to ensure that all their titles and documents covering the lands are duly signed by him.
He expressed unhappiness about a proposed quarry operation on the Koran Hills at Otoase without the knowledge of Okyeman.
Nana Opare Kwafo Mawerehene of Aburi Atwiesin also Director of Jilcon Construction Company and a citizen of Otoase said the government should take a second look into the proposed quarry operations.
He said people have their buildings around the Koran Hills which also serves as the only source of good drinking water.
Nana Kwafo said the quarry project would therefore have an adverse effect on the community especially on the health of the people.
He therefore called for due diligence on the project.
Mr Mike Ofori Darko, Ayensuano District Chief Executive said the assembly has a copy permitting the quarry project.
He said a panel would be set to look into the issues raised by the people and would soon announce the outcome of the decision of the assembly.
