NDC Govt Has Lost Its Priorities

A leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) believes the country is suffering a massive economic drain primarily because the nation lost its priorities when the economy was on solid grounds. The NPP Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, Hon. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, claims the NDC government, in 2011, introduced the National Fiscal Stabilization Act to generate more revenue ostensibly to expand the economy; but was repealed in after the economy posted high dividends. According to him, having lost its priorities, the government without any shame is seeking to re-introduce the Act again to meet shortfalls in revenue generation. He added that the progress of the economy has stalled and significant gains made eroded. the Fiscal Stabilization Act was used to generate revenuefrom 2009 to 2011, the government rather used the money to pay dubious judgment debts, he alleged. Hon. Kokofu, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Lands and Forestry, further accused the NDC government of engaging in propaganda during the 2012 electioneering campaign with the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS). The NDC did not take time to study the scheme to ascertain how it should have been implemented and hastily introduced the new salary structure without considering its repercussionsNow it looks like more taxes, more leakages because when the money is accrued the government spend it unwisely, he opined. Whiles accusing the current administration of resorting to practically taxing everything in the country including cutlass and outboard motors, he also slammed government of increasing Road tolls astronomically yet the accrued monies cannot be translated in the construction of quality roads in the country.
