Local Players Hungry For U-20 Success - Sellas Tetteh

Ghana coach Sellas Tetteh believes international tournament experience bodes well for the development of the local game. The bulk of his squad at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey are dominated by players from the local league. Only five foreign-based players were able to make the final squad. But for Sellas, players who ply their trade in the domestic league show much hunger for success when called up into the national teams. "They are more willingly, they are hungrier to play," Tetteh said. "You need a team with determination, and that is what they have. That pushes them ... So it's good for the team. And it's good for our development as it encourages local players in the country, too." Sellas' argument has been supported by the one of the foreign-based players in the team with Frank Acheampong backing his coach's philosophy to rely on locally based players. "When they get the chance to play in this tournament, they bring out all what they have so the whole world can see them," Acheampong said. However, Sellas says the foreign-based players add international experience. "They enhance the local boys," the coach said. "That brings a blending and that keeps us going."
