MP petitions President Mahama on Tema Land

Mr Daniel Titus-Glover, Member of Parliament for Tema East on Friday petitioned President John Mahama to urgently cede part of the Ghana Armed Forces Eastern Naval Commands land to the people of Tema Manhean. He said this would enable the people of Tema Manhean to expand its health centre into a polyclinic. The member said the Command was currently constructing accommodation for junior ratings on a particular stretch of land that the Tema people had earmarked for the expansion of that health facility. A statement issued in Accra to the media by Mr Titus-Glover, said the people of Tema cannot comprehend why the Eastern Naval Command was carrying out its accommodation project on that land area when there was vast land within its premises for that kind of endeavour. He said the Tema people had suffered a lot because the compulsory acquisition of greater parts of their land by government for industrialization had affected other developments in the area. The MP said the health centre, built in 1970, can no longer support the huge population of the area that has grossed some 70,000 people. He said the expansion of the facility would take the pressure off the Tema General Hospital that was already overstretched. He stated that he had written to the Defence Ministry to release part of that land for the expansion of that project, a request which was denied by the Military High Command.
