Assertions Made By NPP On State Of The Economy Is Nothing New

Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Mr. Kwesi Pratt Jnr has urged Ghanaians to make discussions on the state of the economy more discerning. His comment comes in the wake of a press conference which was organized by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the state of the economy this week, describing the economy as one in shambles clouded with debts. In an interview on Alhaji and Alhaji with Alhassan Suhuyini on Saturday, Mr. Pratt noted that he is appalled by the discussions on the state of the economy because it does not hinge on the objectives the country want to achieve in its development. He stated that the assertions made by the NPP on the state of the economy is nothing new, adding that the press conference did not provide any solutions to the problems facing the country. He cited Neo-colonialism as one of the fundamental problems facing the economy, noting that foreigners are benefiting from the countrys natural resources at the detriment of Ghanaians. According to Mr. Pratt, Ghana is getting less than 1% of the value of gold exports even though it is one of the major gold producers on the continent. He intimated that the phenomenon of importing almost everything we need is killing our economy and is creating massive unemployment in the countrywe can only create more jobs for our people if we are into production. The Insight Managing Editor maintained that the economy will continue to decline until government finds a lasting solution to the payment of salaries of workers. Mr. pratt said the strength of the economy can be restored if we take control of our natural resources and start producing majority of the things we need as a country.
