A former Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice in the Kufuor administration, Kwame Osei Prempeh has expressed displeasure at a publication by the Africa Watch magazine and the Daily Dispatch which indicated that Ghana�s Supreme Court �is going to tow the line of other Supreme Courts on the continent.� The report also stated that �because the Kenyan Supreme Court ruled against Raila Odinga, the Ugandan Supreme Court did same� and therefore whatever happens, Ghana�s Supreme Court would have to go the same way.� Sharing his thoughts on the publication on Eyewitness News, Mr. Osei Prempeh said the report �is very dangerous for Ghana and the continent� and it is likely to kill the country�s democracy. He pointed out that unlike other countries who resort to fighting after their elections, �Ghana has gotten to the point where they go to court. So if the impression is created that once you win the election, you have won irrespective of the way you won and if you go to court notwithstanding the evidence that would be presented before the court, the winner should take it and the loser should go home, then nobody will prepare to go to the courts again.� Mr. Osei Prempeh advised the general public not to believe assertions that the Supreme Court will wear a straight jacket because other Supreme Court have done same. He affirmed his faith in the judiciary adding that its structure is higher than all the other Supreme Courts on the continent saying, �Ghana�s Supreme Court is one of the most respected on the continent therefore, they are going to evaluate the evidence before them and come to a conclusion based on what they have found.� The former Deputy AG called on publishers of the Africa Watch magazine and the Daily Dispatch to desist from such publications and allow the Supreme Court to do its work.
