Vodafone Foundation renovates Children�s Cancer Unit-Korle-Bu

The Vodafone Foundation on Monday inaugurated the Children�s Cancer Unit at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after the company renovated the unit into a modern facility. The extensive construction works carried out by Vodafone foundation comprise the creation of a sterile treatment room, recreational area, reading room and overhauling of the sewage system and roof. The company also renovated offices the for nursing staff, including bathroom and toilet facilities and replaced all damaged beds and baby cots. A study area has also been created to enable children on admission catch up with academic work while under-going treatment. Mr Haris Broumidis, Chief Executive Officer at Vodafone Ghana, said children are future leaders of every nation and it is, therefore, imperative that they are supported to achieve more with their lives. �We are passionate about empowering Ghanaians and we are committed to improving quality healthcare delivery in every possible way,� he said. In a speech read on her behalf, Professor Afua Hesse, the Chief Executive Officer for Korle-Bu, commended Vodafone Foundation for supporting the hospital to cater for cancer patients, adding that the ward is now a world class facility. Professor Bamenla Goka, Head of Child Health Department at Korle-Bu, noted that it is not only medicine that is used to treat patients but a relaxed and stress free environment.
