Prez Mahama, Afriyie Ankrah And Other Ministers Have Been Implicated In The GYEEDA Report

Managing Editor of the Daily Searchlight newspaper, Kenneth Agyei Kuranchie has challenged the authenticity of the GYEEDA report claiming that the report should have come from the Parliamentary Committee and not Ministerial Committee because it implicates President John Dramani Mahama. According to the member of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), the huge sums of monies which were involved in the various contracts could not have come from the Ministers or Chief Executives alone without the knowledge of President Mahama. Speaking on Okay FM, he said that President Mahama should not remain the President if he had no idea about the contracts which are cited in the GYEEDA report; stressing that any huge contract involving between $5m to $10 million has to pass through the office of the President to ascertain the level of contract. He further alleged that Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Minister of Youth and Sports who is the originator of the committee to carry out the investigation is linked to the report because his previous position as Deputy Local Government Minister saw many contracts which had direct contact with his then ministry. Ken Kuranchie was of the view that President Mahama, the then Ministers of Local Government and Youth and Sports should have been called to answer some questions involving the contracts given out to RLG and Zoomlion and other companies; in that such contracts have to be discussed at Cabinet level because it is a huge obligation on the government of this country. He therefore said that it will be strange to hear from President Mahama that he did not know anything about the various contracts in the GYEEDA report. I want to dare President Mahama to tell Ghanaians that he does not know anything about these contracts; the President should be bold to tell us and I dont want to hear this from anybody apart from the President himself, he challenged the President. He reiterated that another issue with the report which is worrisome has to do with transparency in the GYEEDA report; in that the fact that the committee operated in secrecy without the involvement of the media and the public makes the report questionable and difficult to believe what it has been reported. He however alleged that with the way the report has delayed and where the report will be coming from, the tendency that the report has been doctored at the Presidency is high; in that the government wants to hide the truth from Ghanaians and announce to the country a report which will not implicate the President.
