The Mass Social Welfare Scheme, on Monday, 29th July, at the Accra International Conference Centre, outdoored and inducted some 2,500 staff who it says will be providing welfare services to the poor and needy in the Ghanaian society and in the long term, expand its reach to the entire African Continent.
According to the CEO and President of the Millenium Group, Selassie Elikplim De-Ben, Ghana and indeed the African continent has witnessed an attempt made by governments to come to provide a social safety net for its citizens by presenting a raft of social intervention policies to cushion citizens from the clutches of poverty.
However, according to him, statistics have revealed that across the African continent, over 650 million people out of Africa�s total population of some 1 billion people do not have access to welfare services.
It is in this light that he informed the gathering that the Mass Social Welfare Scheme is that institution which will provide Ghanaians and the rest of Africa with wide ranges of social welfare packages.
The core mandate of MSWS, he said is to address the socio-economic challenges of Africa through a social welfare scheme, adding that they hope to do this through the deployment of modern ICT tools, partnering relevant individuals and global organizations by attracting grants and retaining the best of human capital.
In addition to providing financial support to the poor and vulnerable, MSWS is offering employment opportunities to over one hundred thousand qualified applicants across the length and breadth of the country.

Mr De-Ben himself has the credentials to superintend the task and the resources coming the way of the MSWS with which to prosecute this human development and poverty assuaging agenda. In the recent past, he has held operations director roles at Youth Project Ghana and played headship roles at the Millennium Development Project which is a real estate and construction engineering company. Aside also being CEO of Millennium Capital (a thriving micro-finance company), he couples as National Director of the Ghana Peace Project. Wherever he finds himself, one thing is evident � Mr. De-Ben is able to merge and blend an entrepreneurial spirit with a commitment to the poor successfully.
The direction to be charted after its initial annual staff meeting on July 29, 2013, will point towards capturing all useful groupings and their members unto the MSWS platform.
They will be in line to access such benefits as financial help, hire purchase, training and capacity building, medical insurance top-ups, shelter and affordable housing, education and scholarships.
Currently, MSWS enjoys mutually beneficial partnerships from an increasing list of local and international partners including Heritage bank AG who have pledged US$200,000,000.00; Inscor, who are insuring all membership cards against loss and theft; and UniBank Ghana who are sponsoring 1 million members.
MSWS has undertaken a robust acquisition plan to rent offices in all regions and districts, and provided 100 brand new cars for operations nationwide and has undertaken to train and equip all staff.
