14 New Judges Sworn In As High Court Justices

Fourteen new judges have been sworn in as justices of the High Court. At an induction ceremony, they were charged to uphold the highest standards bearing in mind the role the Judiciary plays in strengthening democracy. The Chief Justice, Mrs. Georgina Theodora Wood, warned the new judges not to be carried away by judicial independence, provided by the Constitution, adding that, they are equally subject to accountability of their actions and in actions. Meanwhile, a senior statesman and former President of the Ghana Bar Association, Samuel Okudzeto, has expressed worry over recent talk about the integrity of the judiciary. He noted that the High Court judge who was jailed last week on criminal grounds should be a wake-up call for the newly appointed judges to uphold integrity of the profession.
