We Have To Focus On Goal-Scoring-Sports Minister

Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, Minister of Youth and Sports has bemoaned the dearth of strikers in the local game and wants the canker addressed now. Ghana football has been rocked by goal-scoring problems the last few years with the menace plaguing every sector of the game, from the premier league to the national team level. Speaking at the 2013 edition launch of the Aspire Football Dreams on Tuesday, Afriyie-Ankrah tasked the stakeholders to concentrate on the art of goal-scoring especially at the grassroots level. We have to focus on goal-scoring which has been a problem of Ghana football. It is the only problem that has given us broken hearts. The defence and midfield are secured but the striking department has been our bane. Francis Oti Akenteng, Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) said his outfit is committed to programmes that will address the issue of scarcity of goals affecting the various teams. The Aspire Football Dreams is a programme that seeks to unearth talents in football and athletics for the renowned Qatari-based ' Aspire Football Academy '. Three players will be selected to represent the country at the globally acclaimed famous Aspire Academy in Qatar.
