New Age Requirement For Reserve League

Players above the age 17 bracket will be ruled out of participating in the fourth season of the Reserve League for Ghanaian Premier League sides. The decision to overhaul the development of the game at the reserve team level was announced at the Ghana Football Association's Ordinary Congress on Wednesday. According to GFA President, the new rule, aimed at making the reserve league achieve its intended purpose will take effect from the 2014-15 football season. Effective the 2014/2015 season, the reserve league will be an Under-17 competition and not an Under-20 competition, the GFA President said on the floor of Congress in Prampram. This is so because we have realized that at age 18, players are eligible to sign professional contracts with their clubs. This, therefore, will not serve the intended purpose with the players promoted to the senior side after signing their professional contracts with the clubs, hence this decision. The reserve league will enter its third year when the new season kicks off on September 15.
