The Bongo Traditional Council has challenged the Bongo District Assembly to develop land boundaries to pave way for effective development and to curtail land litigation and conflicts. The Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Aleemyarum Salifu, threw the challenge when he invited the District Chief Executive (DCE)-elect, Mr Alexis Ayamdor to his palace on Friday to introduce him to his 42 divisional and sub chiefs. He told the DCE-elect, who was accompanied by the Acting District Coordinating Director, Mr Adengyo Jasper that the Traditional Council through its own initiatives had established a customarily land secretariat and appealed to the Assembly to help it with logistics and capacity building to operate effectively. He added that his outfit had also worked with the Upper East Regional Land Commission to ensure that it decentralized their operations in the District and impressed upon the DCE-elect and the Assembly to ensure that the process was sped up. He indicated that the Traditional Council under his able leadership had also acquired a land at Gorugu for the building of an ultra-modern hospital for the District and entreated the new DCE to facilitate the process to acquire a proper land documents for the project to commence. He said another major problem confronting the District was the high teenage pregnancy often recorded in the area and indicated that the Traditional Council and the Ghana Health Service had been collaborating in sensitizing the communities and called on Mr Ayamdor to support the process. He urged the Assembly to revive the system where people of 18-years and above in traditional homes were made to pay taxes and to also empower traditional rulers to collect cattle rates and other property rates for the Assembly. The DCE-elect thanked the Chiefs for the honour done him and appealed to them to guide him with their wisdom and cooperation to run the affairs of the District. He said at the appropriate time he would meet with the assembly members to address their concerns, adding �with your support and cooperation I hope in the next four years there will be massive development in the area�. He said he had plans to visit the communities of the divisional and sub-chiefs to interact with them to know their problems and to see how the Assembly could chart an effective way forward to address them. Mr Adengyo Jasper, District Coordinating Director, commended the Paramount Chief for his leadership qualities and pledged that the Assembly was exploring possible ways to increase allowance of chiefs. He assured the Traditional Council that the Assembly would support them to build a befitting shade for the Paramouncy to enable them receive very important guests. Prior to his election, Mr Ayamdor was the Presiding Member (PM) of the Bongo District Assembly. He rose up as assemblyman to annex the PM. He is also a developmental practitioner.
