UN Condemns Nairobi�s Terrorist Attack

The United Nations� Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has strongly condemned the terrorist attack at Nairobi�s Westgate Mall, which occurred on Saturday, September 21, 2013. �This premeditated act, targeting defenseless civilians, is totally reprehensible. The perpetrators must be brought to justice as soon as possible�. A statement issued by United Nations Information Centre and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday said the United Nations's Secretary-General has expressed his condolences to families of the deceased and injured, and to the loved ones of all those of other nationalities who were among the victims. The statement said Nairobi was the United Nations� main headquarters in Africa, with a wide-ranging presence and hundreds of national and international staff, adding, �I am saddened to report that a retired staff member of UNICEF was among those killed in the attack. I offer my condolences to his family�, the UN Secretary-General noted. �This is a time of shock for all Kenyans and all including the UN family who are proud to call Nairobi home. I express my solidarity with them at this moment of grief and loss�, the statement said.
