Criticism Over Handling Of Corruption Is Tasteless - Youth

The Concerned Northern Youth in Ashanti have deflected criticisms by a senior member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Alban Bagbin, over the governments fight against corruption, saying, it is tasteless and unfair. They said they were inclined to believe that this was just but a deliberate attempt to impugn the integrity of the President. The group, in a press statement signed by its Convener, Mr Abass Nuredeen, insisted that President John Dramani Mahama had made tremendous effort and shown total commitment to purge the country of corruption. They said the Code of ethics for Ministers and the appointment of the Sole Commissioner for Judgment Debts attested to his unwavering resolve to tackle the canker head-on. It was therefore completely unacceptable for anybody to second-guess and cast doubts about the political leadership the President was providing and his resolve to fight graft. They said they found it ridiculous the claim by Mr. Bagbin that he was forced to go public because of the difficulty in gaining access to the President, adding that, this becomes even more baffling, given the stature of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadwoli/Kaleo in the NDC. It could only be a mischievous ploy inspired by his disappointment over not getting a ministerial position and his long-standing presidential ambition, the group added. Mr. Bagbin last week criticized the governments measures to fight corruption, saying among other things that much was left to be desired and that he was yet to see a resemblance of political leadership and commitment to fight corruption which had progressively worsened over the years.
