Ghana Piloted For E-Teaching

Five tertiary institutions including the University of Cape Coast, Centre for Continuing Education have been chosen by the Commonwealth to serve as pilot centre for E-Teaching. The remaining centres are sited in Malaysia, Maldives, South Africa and New Zealand. The project which is being initiated by the Commonwealth Education Trust begun in South Africa and Malaysia this year. This was made known by the new Director of the Centre for Continuing Education at the University of Cape Coast, Prof George Oduro, in an interview with Radio Ghana at Koforidua in the Eastern Region. He said the E-Teaching project will begin in Ghana by April next year. Prof Oduro said plans are underway to train facilitators on E-Teaching and E-Learning to enable Ghana be in tune with technological advancement. Prof Oduro noted that the project has created an opportunity for the UCC Centre to lay the foundation for the new teaching and learning methods. He said it will help the Lecturers to know how to design materials for delivery, as well as assessment techniques, adding that it will also encourage Ghanaian students to use internet facilities for learning. Prof Oduro explained that though the project is being piloted at the UCC, the benefits are not limited to only the staff and students of that university but rather the entire nation.
