Trouble Brews In NPP's Ledzokuku...Injunction Placed On Elections

A writ has been filed at an Accra High Court restraining the New Patriotic Party from going ahead with its internal elections in the Ledzokuku Constituency. This was after the Constituency Chairman and other National Executive Members, were accused of acting contrary to laid down party regulations. The injunction, a copy of which is in the possession of Peacefmonline.com, was served on the Constituency Chairman, Mr Alfred Boye, at his residence on Friday, November 15th, 2013, and the General Secretary, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John at the Party's Headquarters. Mr. Sam Laryea ( Constituency Research and Elections Officer) and Mr. Benjamin Eshun (a polling station executive) are the plaintiffs. The plaintiffs allege inter alia that, "In clear contravention of the National Executive Council Rules for the Election of Party Officers 2013/4", Alfred Boye has refused to call a Constituency Executive Committee meeting for the purpose of constituting an Election Committee. The plaintiffs aver that, in the absence of this Election Committee, Alfred Boye is running a 'one man show' directing the conduct of the elections without reference to the NEC Rules". The plaintiffs claim the Constituency Chairman has "withheld the Polling Station Registers for the 74 newly created polling stations from the relevant polling stations and is packing with names of his supporters". Additionally, they claim the "Constituency Chairman is insisting on the payment of 24 months outstanding dues before anyone can be nominated as a polling station executive". The Constituency Chairman further stands accused of "unilaterally preparing a calender for the polling stations without the knowledge and consent of other executives." The plaintiffs therefore prayed the court for an injunction to stop all activities relating to the Internal Elections of Ledzukuku Constituency.
