No Light In Court For 8 Months!

Information reaching the Daily Searchlight newspaper has it that, for the past eight months, the Amasaman District Court has been without electricity. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is said to have cut off power from the court for refusing to pay its bill arrears of GH1000.00. The absence of electricity at the court is reported to making life difficult for workers and the public who throng the court on daily basis to perform duties as well as those who have their cases there. Speaking to the Daily Searchlight, a complainant in a case at the court, Osei Boateng said the absence of electricity at the premises of the court is very disturbing and is affecting productivity. He said due to the absence of light at all department of the court, if someone needs assistance with regards to record keeping, it becomes difficult for the court workers to render assistance. �Just recently I had to contact the court clerk for my docket because I needed to send it some where and I was surprised when he said he could not help me because the room where the records of the court are kept is very dark due to power failure and I had to go and buy torch light for him before he could trace my document,� he stated. He has therefore appealed to the authorities in charge to ensure that they pay the arrears that the court owes ECG to enable them give back light to the court.
