Security Expert: So Long As Society Places Premium On Money, Drug Trade Will Thrive

When information is well known by everyone, it is trite knowledge but when one invests time and effort in a particular field of study, he becomes an authority on the subject. It is on this basis that a Security Expert has warned there would be more attempts to smuggle narcotics, especially cocaine, into the Ghana due to the fact that drug barons have identified flaws in the system and will therefore continue to exploit them. According to Dr. Emmanuel Kwesi Aning, the second reason for which the drug smuggling into Ghana would go on is that, we Ghanaians like trading in cocaine because drug peddlers and barons are held in high esteem. They are hailed for bringing money into their families and the nation and that gives them a lot of control in society. what Im saying is that, as long as our society puts money ahead of everything else, this trade would continue, he added. This, in his view, has dire implications for Ghanas democracy because, conducting political activities and running of political parties needs a lot of financial resources. And if someone brings you a Ghana must go full of money, you would not ask the person how he came by all that. So it has an implication on politics. Dr. Aning, made this known on NEAT FMs Me Man Nti, during a telephone interview with Adakabre Frimpong Manso on the implications of recent arrest of a Guyanese fishing vessel, carrying onboard cocaine, with the street value of $50 million. Meanwhile, 5 people crew members, including a Ghanaian have been arrested and are currently assisting in investigations.
