90-Yr-Old Woman Demands C5000 Cedis Compensation From Yamoah Ponkoh

A 90-year-old farmer, Nana Akosua Acheamponmaa, a native of Ejisu in the Ashanti Region is demanding 5000 Ghana Cedis compensation from the Ejisu Juaben District Assembly for destroying her cocoa farm. According to her, the cocoa farm which is her only source of livelihood has been used by the District Assembly as a landfill site without her consent. Narrating her ordeal to HELLO FM�s King Edward, Nana Acheamponmaa said she was busily working on her cocoa farm one afternoon with her grandchild only to see an excavator clearing part of her farmland. Nana Acheamponmaa indicated that when she queried the operator of the excavator, she was told he was only acting upon instructions and that if she had any problem she should contact the District Chief Executive (DCE). She noted that after contacting the District Chief Executive. Hon. Yamoah Ponkoh, she was given a nice reception and was told to come back in three weeks time for her compensation. Nana Acheampongmaa asserted that after the three weeks elapsed, she went back to Hon.Yamoah Ponkoh's office for her compensation only to be insulted and dragged out by the DCE, making her defecate on herself in the process. She says about 1000 cocoa seedlings worth hundreds of Ghana cedis was destroyed in the process therefore demanding compensation from the district assembly, the feeble 90-year-old woman told HELLO FM. When Yamoah Ponkoh, the District chief Executive for the area was contacted, he denied the allegation, claiming that the assembly has not used any Land for such purpose as these are all plans to smear his had won reputation.
