Mr Paul Afoko, aspiring national chairman of New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday asserted that factionalism has done a great disservice to the fortunes of the party.
He said the party needs rebranding to counteract the perception by its political opponents as being elitist and ethnic based in order to woo members to wrest power from the ruling National Democratic Congress in the 2016 general election.
Mr Afoko, an oil magnate, real estate developer and farmer, made this known to journalists, when he visited Hohoe North and Afadzato South Constituencies in the Volta Region to canvass for votes.
He said the NPP needs a leader, servant, honest broker and unifier to harness and nurture its fortunes and make it formidable for 2016. Mr Afoko said he would initiate�New Plan for Power� architecture by introducing systems and far-reaching structures to invigorate the party.
He pledged to close the gap between the party and its rank and forge partnership with all, especially through structures that broadens the political space for easy engagement.
Mr Afoko said his most essential preoccupation would be to make the party stronger in the Volta, Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions. �I see poverty and under-development stirring in the face of the populace resulting from leadership pitfalls, when the country is well-endowed with natural resources,� he observed.
He said: �My leadership will champion and re-engineer selflessness, hard word and excellence.�
