GWC, PURC Will Kill Us If Pre-paid Water Meters Are Introduced NPP MP

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ablekuma North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Hon. Justice Joe Appiah says the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) and the Ghana Water Company (GWC) wants the demise of all Ghanaians if it goes ahead to introduce pre-paid water meters in the country. In this difficult moment when Ghanaians are complaining of electricity tariffs which is very expensiveif they want to implement this pre-paid water meter then they want to kill all of us. They want the ordinary Ghanaian to suffer whiles government officials will not be affected. They should know that this country does not belong to one person, he stated. The MP, who is a Deputy Ranking member on the Select Committee on Water Resources in Parliament, claims the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) and the Ghana Water Company (GWC) have not submitted any proposal to the parliamentary committee, adding that the committee will evaluate the merit and demerit of the proposal when put before them. The yet-to-be-introduced pilot prepaid water metering system by the Ghana Water Company has been a major topic for discussion this week. The Public Affairs Director of the PURC, Nana Yaa Jantua says her outfit cannot seek to interfere in the operations of the Ghana Water Company because the issue is out of their scope of jurisdiction. But speaking to Adom FM, Hon Joe Appiah opined that The PURC is under our committeewe will invite them to tell us why they want to introduce the pre-paid meter on water. They (PURC and GWC) cannot just introduce any project and imposed it on Ghanaians. They cant implement this unless parliament gives its approval
